So today we will talk about feed for speed. Carbohydrates are one of the best sources for energy. What camels eat can work like magic to make them feel their best when they are racing. You will soon find that small changes in their diet can spell major jumps in their performance and recovery.
We can say nutrition is the make-or-break component of training and racing.
Carbohydrates, also known as saccharides or carbs, are sugars or starches. They are a major food source and a key form of energy for most organisms. Once ingested, they are broken down and used to fuel the camel to run.
But we must be careful while feeding camels carbohydrates because of their special digestion system and they can quickly become carbohydrate overloaded.
Simple carbohydrates are sugars. They consist of just one or two molecules. They provide a rapid source of energy, but the consumer soon feels hungry again. Examples include white bread, sugars, and candies.
Complex carbohydrates consist of long chains of sugar molecules. Whole grains and foods that still have their fiber in are complex carbs. They tend to fill you up for longer, and they are considered more healthful, as they contain more vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Examples include fruits, vegetables, pulses, and wholemeal pasta.
In Protocamel feed we only use complex carbohydrates so camels can get that good fiber that they need. This benefits their metabolism and also it makes a huge impact on the overall health of camel that eats good quality feed.
Yes, it matters!
